"At MWC 2019, LG Electronics (LG) will remind audience of its reputation and history as a leader in smartphone and sound with the new LG G8 ThinkQ featuring Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), an innovative technology that utilizes the phone's OLED display as an audio amplifier," LG electronics said.
The Crystal Sound OLED on the LG G8 ThinQ acts as a diaphragm which vibrates the entire surface to produce quality audio.
LG explained that the Crystal Sound OLED technology doesn't just give out sound, it also improves clarity, makes voices easier to discern and as well subtle musical notes more noticeable because the Crystal Sound OLED technology takes advantage of the whole display.
At the bottom of the device, there's a speaker that delivers impressive bass and fine-tuned audio quality. Other audio features includes DTS:X 3D Surround Sound and Hi-Fi Quad DAC.
"Our commitment to driving smartphone audio to new heights is on clear display in LG G8 ThinQ," senior vice president and head of product strategy at LG, Chang Ma said. "By developing new technologies as well as working closely in partnership with the audio industry's best partners, LG will continue to deliver the quality of sound that consumers demand and deserve."
We've seen the release of foldable phones from Samsung, Huawei and Nubia, and still hope for more releases at the Mobile World Congress 2019. LG too has also joined the list of companies that have released a foldable smartphone.
LG's latest flagship, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G (yeah, i know the name is pretty long) comes with an optional case that has a second screen on it. The two identical screens will offer users split screen functionality that a complete foldable smartphone has to offer.
The LG device main screen is a 6.4-inch OLED 3120x1440 display with QHD+ resolution. Now, the second display is in the "LG DualScreen" accessory of the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. On the inside of the case, instead of a soft screen cover, there's an OLED 6.2-inch 2160x1080 display that has a stiff hinge in the middle to keep the two screens side by side.
The second screen uses an unspecified short-range Wi-Fi to connect to the device. There's also a triple pogo pin connector that allows the second screen to draw power from the main device internal battery Design wise, there isn't much difference between the LG V50 ThinQ 5G and the V40. There are two cameras in the notches on the main display. These includes a standard 8MP one and a 5MP one wide-angle sensor.
At the back of the device, there's a triple rear camera setup though LG's engineers this time fit in the camera sensors into the device body, thereby eliminating the camera bumps that are on the V40. The triple camera setup includes: a 12MP standard F1.5 camera, 12MP telephoto one wth F2.4 and a 16MP wide-angle one with F1.9. One new feature that LG added is the ability of users to take portrait-mode videos with the front facing camera and the ones at the back!
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There's a 400mAh battery to power the LG device and a Quick Charge 3.0 to speed up charging time.
With a Snapdragon X50 5G modem that promises downloads of multiple gigabytes per second, LG added a new Vapor Chamber heat-dissipation to combat the heat that the 5G modem produces.
The LG V50 ThinQ 5G comes with Android 9.) Pie out of the box with LG's Android skin. Other specs includes a Boombox Speaker, IP68 water resistance, Al camera, Google Lens and 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Buetooth 5.0 and yeah, there's a 3.5mm headphone jack on the device.
For now, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G will be available in Astro Black at launch.
LG has launch its Google Assistant smart display today, and is taking off $100 for the gadget for a limited period of time.
The LG smart display, XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9, sports similar specs that we've seen on JBL's Link View, and Facebook's Portal. WK9 comes with an 8-inch touch display, a camera for Duo video calls, built-in Chromecast, Google's Android Things-based smart display OS and other features.
The smart display comes with 20W XBOOM artificial intelligence speakers to give the WK9 a distinct sound. LG partnered with Meridian Audio for the audio output. According to LG, the XBOOM AI speakers produces a sound quality which is exceptional and beautifully balanced.
As a Google Assistant, the WK9 responds to "Hey Google" or "OK Google" voice command to control home your smart home devices, lookup stuff on the Internet and performs other actions. The WK9 smart display can also be used to control LG's home appliances such as Air conditioner, Watching machine, Robot Vacuum, Air Purifier, Refrigerator and more.
Launched in the US, LG is selling the smart display Google Assistant for $300 which is the most expensive smart display on the market. However, the electronic giant is offering $100 off the product for the holiday season.
The LG product is available for purchase on LG's website, and also on B&H.
LG plans to later launch the WK9 smart display assistant in other markets around the world.
Picture quality is one important factor that people consider when going for a new smartphone, not minding the mobile operating system. Everyday, smartphone manufacturers try to come out with a new feature that will make them stand out among their competitors.
In 2016, we saw Apple introduce a dual camera setup for the iPhone 8 Plus. And ever since then, other smartphone manufacturers have followed suite. Huawei have released a smartphone device with 3 rear camera setup and not too long we saw Samsung introduce a quad-camera setup on the Galaxy A9 (2018).
News report from Dutch blog LetsGoDigital shows that South Korean electronic giant has filed a patent with USPTO for a smartphone that with come with 16 cameras lenses.
According to the patent, the smartphone device will feature the hexadecimal lenses at the rear in a matrix-style layout. The multiple camera sensors will allow the user to take a single picture from multiple perspective, and the user can use the different angles to choose the shot of your choice.
The photos that are taken at the same time by different lenses can be combined into a moving image, or even combine several parts of different images together. Another feature is that the smartphone user can select any person or object in the picture and turn it into any desired position.
Details of the patent says that a mirror will be placed below the 16 camera sensors to enable users take selfies with the 16 camera sensors, instead of using the underpowered front facing camera (that is if theres any front facing camera at all).
The patent also said the camera setup will allow for a sophisticated face recognition technology. Now, the patent also suggests that there might be a secondary display at the back of the device, though it isn't shown on the patent sketches.
The stacking up of multiple cameras sensors on smartphones will only keep increasing. Nokia already has a smartphone that it plans to release next year January, this phone will come with a penta-camera setup.
If this LG eventually put this into production and release it on time, it will be the first smartphone sport 16 camera sensors. Though this won't be the first phone to achieve to such. The Light Camera was the first to come with 16 camera sensors.
