WhatsApp has announced that it will end its support for older mobile operating systems such as Blackberry OS (including Blackberry 10) and Windows Phone 8.0 on December 31, 2017.
The Facebook owned company explained that the end of WhatsApp will still work for those device whose platform is no longer supported. However, some features and functionality might stop work at any time for those devices because WhatsApp no longer develops for their platform.
"These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," WhatsApp said. "If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+. or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp."
WhatsApp then dropped a few links to help those who wants to transfer their chat history onto their new device.
"There is currently no option to transfer your chat history between platforms. However, we provide the option to send your chat history attached to an email. Learn how to export your chat history on: Android | iPhone | Windows Phone | Nokia S40 | Blackberry | Blackberry 10"
WhatsApp made a similar move in 2016 when it announced that it had ended support for older mobile OS including Blackberry (also Blackberry 10) and Nokia. WhatsApp later extended support for Blackberry 10 OS until now.
Nokia S40 will receive support until 31, 2018. While Android devices running Android 2.3.7 and older will receive support until February 1, 2020.
