75,000 Turks Arrested For Downloading Bylock Encrypted Messaging App

As many as 75,000 Turks have been arrested by the Turkish authorities in a crack down for using an encrypted messaging app called ByLock which has been declared illegal.

What could be the cause?
In July 2016, the Turkish government foiled a military coup that was aimed to topple President Recap Tayyip Erdogan government.

After the failed coup attempt, the Turkish government accused Muhammed Fethullah Gülen, a Turkish preacher who lives in the US for participating and leading the coup, although Gülen denied having any involvement.

The Turkish intelligence agency, Milli Istihbara Teskilati (MIT) led an investigation and discovered that the ByLock messaging app was used for communication by tens of thousands of Gülen followers to orchestrate the coup.

The Milli Istihbara Teskilati managed to crack the ByLock messaging app algorithm and decrypted over 10 million encrypted messages which led to evidence against the coup plotters and so many undercover Gülenist operatives.

According to the Guardian, about 75,000 people have been detained by the Turkish authorities in connection to the coup. Among those arrested are civil servants, Police officers, Judges, House makers, Businessmen, who are alleged to have participated in the foiled military coup.

Thomas Moore, a British computer forensics expert, disagree on the idea that the ByLock app was made to aid the coup in Turkey, hinting that the app are free of charge on the Apple Store and Google Play and therefore isn't tied to any region.

"It was downloaded over 600,000 times between April 2014 and April 2016 by users all over the world," The Guardian quoted Moore."It is, in my opinion, therefore nonsensical to suggest that its availability was restricted to a particular group of people."

The Turkish authorities believes that the ByLock communication app was created by the Fetullahist terrorist Organization (FETO) to deliver Gülen's messages among faithfuls and as well as to aid in executing the coup plot.

Cyber-Criminals Hacked Ccleaner To Spread Malware To Over Of 2.4 Million Users

CCleaner. an application that allows users to clean and enhance their PC performance was compromised by hackers who replaced the original version of the software with the malicious one and distributed it to close to 2.5 million users worldwide.

According to the discovery made by security researchers from Cisco Talos, the download server for CCleaner was compromised with a backdoor between August 15 and September 12 this year. This backdoor might have downloaded malicious software which includes, spyware, keyloggers, malware or even ransomware onto any user computer system.

The researchers explained that the malicious version of CCleaner which was detected on 13 September, contained a muilti-stage malware payload that steals data from infected computers and send it to the hacker's server.

Data collected by the malicious software includes IP and MAC addresses, Computer name, Windows updates, List of all running  processes, Information regarding whatever the computer is running with admin privilege, list of installed softwares.

Makers of CCleaner software, Piriform sold the software to Avast in July 2017 and so far both have confirmed that the Windows 32-bit version of CCleaner v5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191 were affected by the malware and therefore urged users to update their CCleaner software to version 5.34 or higher.

"The threat has now been resolved in the sense that the rogue server is down, other potential servers are out of control of the attacker.

"Users of CCleaner Cloud vrsion 1.07.3191 have received an automatic update. In other words, to the best of our knowledge, we were able to disarm the threat before it was able to do any harm," Talos said.

CCleaner users those using the free version who didn't receive the update can click here for the updated version.

Du Anti-Virus Secretly Stole Millions Of User Data

DU Antivirus Security, a security software developed by the DU group has been found to be secretly harvesting it's users data without seeking their consent.

According to a post by Check Point, the free Antivirus software which had between 10 and 50 million downloads when the discovery was made is said to collect its user's data only during the first run after the installation.

Information collected by the application from Android devices includes contact list, unique identifiers, contact list, call logs, and the potential location of the device. After gathering all the above list information, the app encrypts it and then send it to a remote server.

"While users trusted DU Antivirus Security to protect private information. it did the exact opposite. It collected the personal information of its users without permission and used that private information for commercial purposes," Check Point said on their blog.

Check Point also noted that the DU Antivirus app also logged users during calls, who they spoke with, and for how long they stayed on the phone call. Information collected are used by another app in the DU family called Caller ID & Call Block - DU Caller. The software is designed to provide users with information about incoming phone calls.

The researchers from Check Point made Google aware of the data collection practices on August 21 and the application was removed from the Google Play Store on the 24. However, the application returned to the Play Store on the 28 of August after its developers removed the malicious script from the application.

Versions of DU Antivirus Security that has the malicious code includes v3.1.5 and all version that came before it. The same data collecting code was also found in 30 other applications including 12 programs distributed through Google Play. These apps also transmitted the stolen data to the same remote server used by DU Caller. Though those apps have been removed from the Play Store, an estimated 24 to 89 million Android users are thought to suffer from the illicit data collection.

Check Point explained that Antivirus applications are easy to deceive since they have tangible reasons to demand user data so as to be used in the security check.

"Since anti-virus apps have a legitimate reason to request unusually extensive permissions, they are the perfect cover for fraudsters looking to abuse these permissions. In some cases, mobile anit-virus apps are even used as a decoy for delivering malware. Users should be aware of these suspicious anit-virus solutions, and use only threat protection from reputable vendors that are proven to be capable of safeguarding mobile devices and data stored in them," Check Point said.

DU Antivirus users are advised to upgrade to the latest version of DU Antivirus.

How To Turn Your Android Phone Into An Iphone X

Apple recently released the iPhone 8, 8 plus and the iPhone X which Tim Cook describe as "the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone."

Most iPhone users aren't happy with the iPhone 8 little upgrade, most especially the traditional design that has a big bezel, although everything the iPhone 8 lacked can be found in the iPhone X which is priced heavily.

The iPhone X which is the first bezel-less smart phone from Apple, has a well built design that makes some Android users (not Samsung 8 series users!) want to have a feel of the iPhone X experience! Well, Android users that want to have this experience can actually make their droid device actually look like an iPhone X!

A developer that goes by the name "Idoidea" has created an app that can turn- urm, i mean make your android device have the distinctive cut-out of the iPhone X.

The app name of the app is "XOutOf10" and you can click here to download the app from the PlayStore. The app is free to download and available for Android users on Android 6 Marshmallow and above.

Installing the app and making it to work is quite is easy. All you need to do is install the app after downloading it, grant the permission to "permit Drwaing Over Apps". And uhm.....Android Oreo users won't be able to enjoy this because the simulated notch will be hidden while dragging down the notification panel.

This Iphone X Clone Cost Less Than $100!

The iPhone X recently launched by Apple is a much coveted phone which many iPhone users know that they will never be able to afford it due to the heavy price of $1000 placed on it.

The iPhone X which is seen as a smartphone that is not mean't for "everyone" just got a rival called "The GooPhone X" which sells for less than $100!

The GooPhone X which looks identical to the iPhone X is made by GooPhone, a company notoriously known for stealing designs of premium phones so as to create a phone look-alike of that device.

GooPhone is so notorious in its work that they even managed to put together the fake GooPhone before the launch of the original iPhone X. Years back, GooPhone stole the design of the iPhone 5 and then went ahead to create a "GooPhone 5" and even launched the device before apple. GooPhone didn't stop there but went ahead and threatened to sue Apple for copyright!

So whats the spec of the GooPhone X anyway? Well the GooPhone X has a 5.5-inch edge-to-edge display which has a 720*1280 HD display and a Mediatek MTK6580 chip. The device runs on Android 5.0 OS which they some how managed to make a fake Android 7.0 appear in place of Android 5.0. The phone displays a fake 4G LTE while offering 3G.

The fake iPhone X has 1GB of RAM and it shows a Fake 64GB memory capacity when its actual ROM space is 16GB. What looks like a dual-camera set-up at the back of the phone is faked too, though it has an 8-mega pixel at the back and a 2-mega pixel in the front.

There's a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2100mAh battery and.... well, there's no finger print scanner on the fake device as we doubt if there's any Face ID system too. Wait, GooPhone can fake that too!

Iphone 8 Plus Burst While Charging

Last year Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 line of device was called off the market due to a fault in the battery which made the device to over heat and explode when it was being charged. Apple also had a couple of devices that exploded too, though just a fraction of the unit sold.

Not too long ago, Apple recently launched the iPhone 8, 8 plus and X but news coming from Taiwan says an iPhone plus user reported that her iPhone 8 plus 64GB burst into flames while it was being charged.

According to cnbeta, the woman who simply identified herself as Miss Wu said that she hurriedly pulled out the charger from her iPhone when she noticed that the battery was inflating and feared that it might explode. The inflated battery pushed out the screen of the iPhone 8 Plus.

Reports says Miss Wu is just a regular and not a heavy phone user. All she does is Facebook, watch movies and a few times played games. Miss Wu who used the original charger that came with the iPhone has had her iPhone replaced by Apple who are also investigating the cause.

Apple could be looking at a dangerous situation that might place it in the same line as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The company that manufactures battery for Apple is called ATL, the same company that provided the exploding batteries for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Well, Samsung eventually dropped ATL as a supplier.

New Facebook Feature To Allow All Users Unlock Their Accounts With Facial Recognition

Social Media giant Facebook has come up with a brilliant idea that would help Facebook users to easily login or gain access to their locked account when they can't use other forms of recovery.

According to TechCrunch, Facebook is testing a new feature that would let its users use their face to login, authenticate a login or recover a locked  account. This facial recognition feature would come handy mostly to those whose account have been locked and can't use the two-factor authentication SMS or their email account to unlock their account.

TechCrunch got this reply from Facebook when they asked what the feature was all about.

"We are testing a new feature for people who want to quickly and easily verify account ownership during the account recovery process. This optional feature is available only on devices you 've already used to login. It is another step, alongside two-step authentication SMS. that were taking to make sure account owners can confirm their identity."
TNW's Matt Navarra shared a screenshot sent to him by Social Media researcher Devesh Logendran on twitter.

This test feature which is available to just a few people for now would be embraced by many people who will be find this method quite fast during account recovery.

More Iphone 8 Users Complaining Of Screen Swelling Problems

More reports of batteries swelling from the recently launched iPhone 8 Plus have continued to erupt after a Taiwan user complained of her iPhone battery swelling while it was being charged.

The total number of iPhone 8 plus battery swelling case has risen to 6, following reports in Taiwan, Japan,  China, Greece and Canada. One of the recent case happens to be a Canadian who told MacRumours that he "bought and unboxed a new iPhone 8 Plus on Sunday, but was forced to return it by Monday after the display popped out."

All those complaining of the defective battery on the iPhone 8 Plus all have nearly identical symptoms which is, the battery swells to the point of splitting open the enclosures.

After the first incident, spokes person for Apple said that they were aware and were looking into the possible cause of the problem.

The growing numbers of the iPhone 8 Plus device having this battery issue which is 6, is not much, but looking at the date that the device was launched to this time......the short time frame that all these cropped up is quite a call for concern.

Apple should investigate the cause of the swollen batteries and find a remedy to it before it escalate like that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. And as you all know, the same people producing the iPhone 8 Plus battery were the same people that made batteries for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Qualcomm Wants To Ban Iphone Sales In China

In an effort to keep charging Apple over the use of its patents in China, Qualcomm has filed lawsuits against Apple in a move that could halt the production and sales of iPhones in China.

According to the law suite filed in an intellectual property court in Beijing, the mobile chip manufacturer claimed that Apple violated its patents and the company is seeking injunctive relief over the misuse of its IP.

Qualcomm which is the world biggest provider of mobile chips, gets a portion of revenue from licensing its technologies to hundreds of device makers. According to Qualcomm, the fee is charged based on the phone's value rather than the component.

Now since Qualcomm owns patents related to 3G and 4G phones, phone makers that builds 3G and 4G capable phones will have to pay them a licensing fee even if they don't use Qualcomm chips. And thats including Apple who only wants to pay for the chips alone, and not the entire phone.

Apple on its part has argued that Qualcomm is "effectively taxing Apple's innovation" and that Apple "shouldn't have to pay them for technology breakthroughs they have nothing to do with."

Whatsapp's Live Location Feature Lets Friends Track You In Real Time

WhatsApp is set to roll out  a new feature on its messaging app called "Share Live Location" which enable users to share their location in real time to their WhatsApp contact.

Previously, WhatsApp made it possible for users to share their location only on a static map but this new feature allows the user to share their location in real time which allows real time monitoring. Those who enables the feature can set it for a fixed period of time --maybe 10 mins, 8 hours or 14 hours -- or you can set it to what ever time that you want.

WhatsApp explains that this new feature is designed to be used to let others know that you are OK, and to allow them see that you have made it to your destination.

Here's what WhatsApp said:

"we 're rolling out a new feature that allows you to share your location in real-time with family or friends. Whether you 're meeting up with friends, letting loved ones know you 're safe, or sharing your mute, Live Location is a simple and secure way to let people know where you are. This end-to-end encrypted feature lets you control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire.

"Here's how it works. Open a chat with the person or a group you want to share with. Under "Location " in the attach button, there's a new option to "Share Live Location." Choose for how long you want to share and tap send. Each person in the chat will be able to see your real-time location on a map. And if more than one person shares their Live Location in the group, all locations will be visible on the same group."

This Share Live Location which is designed to let others know your location is a good update by WhatsApp, although there are concerns that the feature could be enabled without someone's knowledge so as to track their movements.

WhatsApp says the feature will take a few to complete before being rolled out to Android and iOS users.

Whatsapp Is Testing Group Audio And Video Call Features

After announcing the Live location feature last week, Instant messaging service WhatsApp is testing another feature that would let its users make audio and video calls withing groups of their contacts.

The introduction of video calls on WhatsApp made many users on Skype, Imo and other similar messaging platform to switch over to WhatsApp. However, WhatsApp has been left behind in delivering group video calling feature, a thing that has been existing on Facebook while Skype offers it in its premium version.

According to WABetainfo, the upcoming features can be found in the WhatsApp V2.17.70 beta.

"The 2.17.70 iOS update has very hidden references to group calls! Before it was an internal new, now it's all confirmed,"WABetainfo tweeted on Sunday.

"There are a lot of hidden references about group voice calls, but there is only one reference to the group video calls. So group video calls are partially confirmed at the moment," WABeinfo added.

WABetainfo says that V2.17.287 beta for Android woul bring new features for group administrators which includes; the ability to set whether the group members can make changes to the group icon, subject, description. The ability to prevent the group creator from being deleted by any admin from the group.

WhatsApp is also testing a feature that allows users to "unsend and delete" sent messages.

This group audio and video call features won't be rolled out by WhatsApp until it undergoes extensive tests which would take up some time.

India Overtakes The Us To Become The World’S Second Largest Smartphone Market

India has overtaken the US to become the worlds second largest smart phone market - news report from Canalys says.

According to the report, smart phone shipments in India's for the first time crossed the 40 million mark in Q3 all thanks to a 23 percent annual growth. India now sit second to China which holds the number one spot with 110 million shipment per quarter..

The competition between Samsung and other Chinese smart phone companies keeps getting stiffer as Chinese companies have dominated the India smart phone market.

However, Canalys said that Samsung still remained at the top with 9.4 million shipments made in Q2, going up by 30 percent, though Xiaomi is set to over take it after recording over 290 percent growth to reach 9.2 units shipments.

India for some time now has been expected to overtake the US in terms of sales and shipments given the large population which stands at over 1.3 billion compared to the 320 million population in the US.

"This growth comes as a relief to the smartphone industry. Doubts about India's market potential are clearly dispelled by this result," a statement from Canalys analyst Ishan said.

The reports shows three Chinese brands (Vico, Oppo and Lenovo) rounding up the top five, while Apple can't be seen anywhere close. Although the US is said to have shipped about 2.5 million smartphones into India in 2016, the low demand for iPhones can be attributed to their high price as most of their sales are recorded only in urban places.

Indians have appluaded the surge for smartphones although watchers have said that the India market will require a little more time due to sales hindering factors such as import taxes, poorer internet quality, complicated supply chains and local retail laws.

Apple Fires Iphone X Engineer After Daughter Uploads Video Of The Unreleased Device On Youtube

Apple has fired an engineer after his daughter made an iPhone X hands-on video and then uploaded it on Youtube.

The video which went viral on YouTube did not only record the iPhone X alone but also recorded some part of the facility, a thing that is forbidden in the facility.

According to Theverge, the YouTuber whose name is Brooke Amelia Peterson went to the tech giant Apple campus to visit her dad and also to access the iPhone X before its worldwide launch on November 3.

In the process she decided to do a hand-on video on the iPhone X but then revealed a "special employee-only QR codes" and also codenames of unreleased Apple products.

Although the other revelations made in the video were unintentionally done, Apple quickly sacked the girls dad when sites like 9to5Mac and others made the video go viral on YouTube.

In another video uploaded on YouTube, Peterson can be seen crying as she explained that her father was fired as a result of the video she uploaded on YouTube. She said the video she uploaded was in violation of the companys rule to film the unreleased at Apple's campus.

Peterson has removed the video after Apple asked that it be brought down.

Whatsapp Users Can Now Delete Messages Sent By Mistake

WhatsApp has finally rolled out the feature that enable users to delete messages sent to other WhatsApp users.

This new "Delete for everyone"feature is available for Android, iOS and windows Phone users although WhatsApp announces on its FAQ page that the new feature isnt available to all users for now (even those with the latest version of WhatsApp) although it shouldn't take long before the update rolls out to all users.

WhatsApp explained that the Delete for everyone feature will be available for messages sent to groups and individual chats. When a message has been deleted, the deleted message would be replaced with "This message has been deleted" notice.

However, WhatsApp warns that you can only delete sent messages within 7 minutes from the time that it was sent. The user wont be able to delete the message if he or she wait longer than that 7 minutes limit.

Another factor necessary for the "Delete for everyone" feature is that both the sender and the recipient must have the latest version of WhatsApp, and also have the Delete for everyone feature enabled.

One major scare WhatsApp users are having is the fact that WhatsApp warns that recipient might see messages that were recalled , but did not delete successfully. Worse still, WhatsApp won't notify senders that their message(s) wasn't successfully deleted! So i urge those of you who might want to bombard your boss with "whatever it is kind of message" with hopes of deleting it should think twice before embarking on such.

Apple Users To Wait Longer For Iphone X As High Demand Exceeds Supply

Apple users might have to waited longer than expected for the highly priced iPhone X due to high demands which exceeds Apple's current stock.

The $1000 device which went on sale on Apple's website in the US on Friday at 12:01 a.m Pacific Time ahead of the device shipping next week, only lasted for 10 minutes as customers quickly exhausted the few units. Those who made orders after the 10 minutes were told that they would have to wait for about 5- 6 weeks before they could receive the device - a sign that explained everything in store had been sold.

The "demand for Apple's new iPhone X exceeded initial supply within minutes of pre-orders opening on Friday for the hotly anticipated new device," The Financial Times wrote in its article regarding the excess demand over supply of the iPhone X.

Apple lovers in the UK too faced a similar wait and also reports said that pre-orders for the iPhone X in Hong Kong lasted less than 30 minutes as the device was completely sold out within that time.

The shortage of the iPhone X can be blamed on the low sales of the iPhone 8. Apple, trying to be on the safe side made available a few quantity of the iPhone X to see how the market responds.

Although Android phone makers were killing physical buttons and making bezeless device, Apple wasn't sure how iPhone users felt about the iPhone X and so had to launch the iPhone X alongside the iPhone 8 so as to get Apple users attention -- a thing Apple never does. Apple never launches two premium device at the same time.

While the demand for the iPhone X is still very high, Apple is expected to build about 20 million to 40 million of the device in the next few months, although analysts are hinting that the iPhone X would still remain a scare commodity for a longer period of time than most of its predecessors.

"We expect led times of four to six weeks for the month of November," said Gene Munster, Apple analyst and investor at Loup ventures. "We believe the iPhone X will reach global supply-demand equilibrium sometime in the March quarter, or three to four months after launch. Typically it takes time to reach equilibrium."

Iphone Users Worried Why The Iphone Is Collecting Their B00b Pictures

iPhone users have shown mixed reactions towards a recently discovered iPhone search tool in the photos app that sorts out photos into categories. This tool sorts out pictures that reveals b00bs, cleavage, Bikini or bra into a folder when the user search for the word "Brassiere".

This iPhone feature which sent Twitters users crazy has actually been existing for more than a year now although many iPhone users never knew it existed until now.

Medium explained that Apple made an update to the photo appp which enabled it to use image recognition algorithm to categorize pictures. The photo app supports 4,432 different scenes and objects and it uses 33 categories such as "Favourited", "Nearby", "Brassiere", "Girdle", "Corset", "Trips", "Weekend", "Last Year", "Recent Events" etc to label pictures.

"Photos app will generate Memories that fall within the following 33 categories. Default name of the memory will be automatically generated using metadata from the photos and tags from analysis of photos", Medium said.

However, news of the photo app folder began to spread fast as different women came online on Twitter to voice their individual experience with the search.

"Its true," Teigen said on Twitter. "If u type in 'brassiere' in the search of your iPhotos, it has a category of every b00bs or cleavage pic you've ever taken"
Another user vania said "Wtf if you go to your pics and type in brassiere apple has album of you and pics of ur Tatas?!?!?!
